The White House has floated the possibility of limiting or eliminating the proof-of-work mechanism that underpins Bitcoin and its blockchain network�a move that would strike a blow at the heart of the digital asset economy. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy recommended in a report Friday that greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts stemming from crypto �mining� should be limited.
