"Coinbase Unveils Global Crypto Trading for Institutional Investors Beyond US Borders

Leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has revealed its latest offering, extending spot crypto trading services to institutional clients on its international platform. Starting December 14, institutional investors located outside the United States will have the opportunity to engage in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) trading against the stablecoin USD Coin (USDC).

In an announcement on December 13, Coinbase outlined its plans to launch these services, with a subsequent expansion to include retail investors. The exchange aims to introduce additional tokens and features that facilitate new trading strategies and improve capital efficiency.

Acknowledging the concerns of asset issuers and members of the crypto community regarding the regulatory uncertainties in the United States, Coinbase emphasized its commitment to providing a global trading platform. The move comes amid a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against Coinbase in June, alleging that the platform operates as an unregistered securities exchange, broker, and clearing agency. Other major U.S. exchanges, such as Binance and Kraken, are also facing enforcement actions or criminal charges by regulatory authorities.

Coinbase launched its International Exchange in May, initially catering to institutional investors with BTC and ETH perpetual futures trading. The platform subsequently announced plans in September to extend its services to retail traders.

Meanwhile, within the United States, Coinbase's Stand With Crypto initiative is actively engaging with potential voters ahead of the 2024 elections. Recently, on December 11, the organization hosted a presidential forum featuring candidates from various political parties who discussed crypto and blockchain-related issues."
